AI for Financial Advisors: An AI Twin That Answers Prospects and Books Meetings Without Giving Advice

AI for financial advisors does four jobs: meeting notes, planning, marketing drafts and answering prospects. Timeless AI™ Twin handles the fourth, answering prospects in your own words about your firm, fees, minimums and process on your website and in AI assistants, then sending them to your booking link so personalized advice stays in your meeting.

In a 2026 survey of 68 registered investment adviser (RIA) firms, Cerulli Associates and Vista Equity Partners found that 64% say AI has reduced their manual and administrative work, while half remain in the lowest adoption tier, "Exploring" (Cerulli Associates and Vista Equity Partners, 2026). Those back-office gains do nothing for the prospect who lands on your website at 10 p.m. wanting your minimum, or the heir who asks ChatGPT whether you are worth a call, and those conversations are where new clients start. This guide covers what an AI twin may say under the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Marketing Rule and Financial Industry Regulatory Authority (FINRA) Rule 2210, a 10-step checklist for your chief compliance officer (CCO), setup steps and a worked example.

Give prospects a version of you that answers their questions tonight and books the meeting.

What can AI do for a financial advisor in 2026?

AI does four jobs in an advisory practice: documenting meetings, analyzing plans and tax returns, drafting marketing, and answering prospects. The first three save hours, but only the fourth puts new names on your calendar, and it carries the heaviest compliance load because every answer goes out under your name.

What is an AI twin for a financial advisor?

An AI twin is an AI version of you that answers prospects in the first person, in your own words. Unlike a chatbot that speaks for a company, your twin speaks as you and ends the way you would, with an invitation to book. Timeless AI™ Twin works through three doors: one script tag on your website, an API for your client portal, and an MCP door that lets AI assistants supporting the Model Context Protocol ask your twin questions and read who you are.

Your twin answers from the memories you add to your Persona, so the fees, minimums and process you write down are your twin's facts. When a visitor speaks on your website, your twin can reply in your own cloned voice; typed questions get text. A badge names your twin, and asked directly, your twin says in one line that the visitor is talking to your twin. Your twin sends prospects to your booking link and does not take payments, place trades or send email for you, which keeps the compliance review narrow.

What can an AI twin say to prospects, and what is off limits?

Your twin can say anything you would publish on your website or in your Form ADV Part 2A brochure: who you serve, what you charge, your minimum, your process and how to start. Performance, projections, testimonials and recommendations are off limits, because each one needs a disclosure package or a fiduciary judgment.

Rule behind the line

Who do you work with?

Your niche in your words, such as physicians or business owners

"The best advisor for doctors in Ohio" without proof

SEC Rule 206(4)-1(a)(2); FINRA Rule 2210(d)(1)(B)

What do you charge, and what is your minimum?

Your fees and minimum exactly as your Form ADV Part 2A states them

A fee you do not charge, or "the lowest fees anywhere"

SEC Rule 206(4)-1(a)(1) and (a)(2)

What returns do you get?

That performance is discussed in a meeting with full disclosures

Any return figure, hypothetical result or projection

SEC Rule 206(4)-1(d); FINRA Rule 2210(d)(1)(F)

Should I roll over my 401(k)?

That the answer depends on their situation, plus your booking link

Any recommendation to buy, sell, hold or roll over

Fiduciary duty; Regulation Best Interest

What do your clients say about you?

Facts about your firm and your booking link

Client quotes or ratings without the required disclosures

SEC Rule 206(4)-1(b) and (c)

Am I talking to a real person?

That they are talking to your twin, in one line

Anything implying you are typing live

SEC Rule 206(4)-1(a)(3)

Write those answers as memories in your own words, including a line such as "I only discuss performance in a meeting, with the full disclosures in front of you," then have your CCO review them and test your twin on every question in the left column.

Which SEC and FINRA rules apply to an AI chatbot for financial advisors?

Neither the SEC nor FINRA has a special rule for AI chatbots, so the rules that govern your website and emails govern your twin. FINRA Regulatory Notice 24-09 (June 27, 2024) calls FINRA rules technology neutral and tells firms to evaluate generative AI tools, third-party tools included, before deploying them (FINRA, 2024). The SEC withdrew its 2023 predictive data analytics proposal on June 12, 2025, leaving advisers under the existing Marketing Rule, Compliance Rule and books-and-records rule (SEC, 2025). State-registered advisers should also check their state's rules.

Rule

Covers

What it means for your twin

SEC Marketing Rule 206(4)-1

SEC-registered advisers

No untrue or unsubstantiated claims, performance only with net results and one-, five- and ten-year periods, and testimonials only with disclosures

SEC Rule 206(4)-7 (Compliance Rule)

SEC-registered advisers

Written policies that cover your twin, reviewed at least once a year

SEC Rule 204-2

SEC-registered advisers

Keep each advertisement and written communications relating to advice for five years, the first two in an appropriate office

FINRA Rule 2210

Broker-dealers and dually registered reps

Content reaching 25 or fewer retail investors in 30 days is correspondence; wider content is a retail communication a principal approves first

Securities Exchange Act Rule 17a-4

Broker-dealers

Keep business communications for three years, the first two easily accessible

FINRA's chatbot FAQs (May 10, 2024) classify chatbot communications by who receives them and hold firms responsible for their communications whether a human or AI wrote them (FINRA, 2024). FINRA's 2026 Annual Regulatory Oversight Report adds effective practices: robust testing before deployment, prompt and output logs, and human-in-the-loop review (FINRA, 2025). Twin conversations are stored, but the retention duty stays with your firm, so settle recordkeeping with your CCO before launch. Our verdict: an AI twin fits independent RIAs best, and a broker-dealer rep needs the firm's approval first under its FINRA Rule 3110 supervision duty.

The SEC Division of Examinations says its fiscal year 2026 exams will check the accuracy of what firms say about their AI capabilities (SEC Division of Examinations, fiscal year 2026). On March 18, 2024, the SEC settled charges against Delphia (USA) Inc. and Global Predictions Inc. for $400,000 in combined civil penalties over false AI claims, including Global Predictions calling itself the "first regulated AI financial advisor" (SEC, 2024).

Compliance checklist: what should you do before your AI twin goes live?

Work through these ten steps with your CCO before the first door opens, since each maps to a rule your examiner already applies.

  1. Classify the twin. Each reply goes to one visitor but the same content reaches many, so we recommend RIAs treat the twin's content as an advertisement under SEC Rule 206(4)-1; at FINRA members, a principal classifies replies under Rule 2210(a) and approves retail communications under Rule 2210(b)(1).

  2. Substantiate every claim under Rule 206(4)-1(a)(2), and keep every answer fair and balanced under FINRA Rule 2210(d)(1)(A).

  3. Copy fees and minimums from your Form ADV Part 2A word for word into your memories, since a wrong fee answer is an untrue statement under Rule 206(4)-1(a)(1).

  4. Leave out all performance, hypotheticals and projections under Rule 206(4)-1(d) and FINRA Rule 2210(d)(1)(F); hypothetical performance makes even a one-person reply an advertisement under Rule 206(4)-1(e)(1).

  5. Remove testimonials and ratings unless you meet the conditions in Rule 206(4)-1(b) and (c).

  6. Send every advice question to your booking link, where you can meet your fiduciary duty or Regulation Best Interest with the full facts.

  7. Describe the AI accurately: call your twin an AI twin in your marketing, and claim nothing about the AI that you cannot document.

  8. Test hostile questions and keep the log: returns, rollovers, crypto and "are you a real person," as Notice 24-09 and FINRA's 2026 report expect.

  9. Set retention for every approved memory set and your test log under Rule 204-2, or Rule 17a-4 at a broker-dealer.

  10. Re-approve on every change to fees, services or staff, and include your twin in the annual review under Rule 206(4)-7.

On price, putting a Delphi Digital Mind on your website starts at $299 a month on Scaler, about five times Timeless Pro at $59.99 (as of October 2026). Timeless AI™ Twin also gives an advisor an MCP door for AI assistants, a badge that names your twin, a handoff to your booking link and Executor Lock™, and our Delphi alternative page compares the two.

How do you set up an AI twin with Timeless AI™?

Setup takes seven steps with the compliance review before any door opens, and most of the work is writing down answers you already give in intro calls.

  1. Build your Persona free. Start with 25 memories about your work, your firm and how you serve clients; there is no card, and your free build never expires.

  2. Write your prospect answers as memories: who you serve, your fees and minimum exactly as your Form ADV Part 2A states them, your process and how to book. Keep client names and account details out.

  3. Get CCO sign-off using the checklist above, and file the approved memory set.

  4. Switch on Timeless Pro at $59.99 a month or $599 a year, which includes everything in Eternal plus Timeless AI™ Twin; see Timeless pricing.

  5. Add your booking link and test as a visitor with questions about returns, rollovers and whether you are a real person, and keep the answers as your test log.

  6. Open the doors one at a time: the website door (one script tag) first, then the MCP door, then the API if you run a client portal.

  7. Set your after-lock choices under Executor Lock™: name your executor and Trusted Contacts, and choose which doors keep answering after a verified death, when every door starts switched off and your twin passes to your executor. We recommend every door off for an advisory practice so your successor speaks for the firm; put that choice in your business continuity plan.

Worked example: what is an AI twin worth to a solo RIA?

Example (illustrative assumptions, not a forecast): a solo fee-only advisor in Denver whose twin turns one after-hours visitor into a client in a year earns back Timeless Pro more than 12 times. We assume a $750,000 new account and a 1% annual fee; swap in your own numbers.

Line item (example)

Amount

Assumed new client account

$750,000

Assumed advisory fee

1% a year

Fee revenue from that client in year one

$7,500

Timeless Pro on the annual plan

$599

Year-one revenue to cost on the annual plan

12.5 to 1

The second return is time: if your twin answers the fee and minimum questions that now reach your calendar and keeps three below-minimum prospects a month out of 30-minute intro calls, you save 18 hours a year. Break-even on these numbers is less than a tenth of one new client, so judge your twin on booked meetings, not chat volume.

On the example numbers, one new client a year pays for Timeless Pro 12 times over.

$59.99 a month or $599 a year, with everything in Eternal plus your twin.

Why does the great wealth transfer make a twin urgent for advisors?

Many of the people who will control your clients' assets over the next two decades were never in your meetings. Cerulli Associates projects that $124 trillion will transfer through 2048, with $105 trillion going to heirs, $18 trillion to charity, and $54 trillion passing to spouses first (Cerulli Associates, 2024). Nearly $40 trillion of those spousal transfers is expected to reach widowed women of the Baby Boomer and older generations (Cerulli Associates, 2024).

A widow who wants to understand your process at 11 p.m., or an heir who asks an AI assistant about you before returning your call, gets your answers in your words from your twin. Our great wealth transfer guide explains the shift, the great wealth transfer statistics collect the numbers, and estate planning for high-net-worth families is a guide to send clients.

Build your Persona free today, so heirs and prospects get your answers in your own words.

Frequently asked questions

Can financial advisors use AI chatbots on their websites?+

Yes, financial advisors can use AI chatbots on their websites, under the same rules as the rest of their marketing. FINRA Regulatory Notice 24-09 (2024) calls FINRA rules technology neutral, SEC-registered advisers stay under the SEC Marketing Rule, and the firm answers for every word the chatbot says.

Is an AI twin's answer an advertisement under the SEC Marketing Rule?+

The SEC Marketing Rule covers any communication an adviser makes to more than one person that offers advisory services. Each twin reply goes to one visitor, but the same content reaches every visitor, so the conservative approach is to treat the twin's content as an advertisement and keep each approved version under SEC Rule 204-2.

Does FINRA treat chatbot conversations as correspondence or retail communications?+

FINRA's chatbot FAQ from May 2024 says chatbot communications can be correspondence, retail or institutional communications, depending on who receives them. Under FINRA Rule 2210, content sent to 25 or fewer retail investors within any 30-calendar-day period is correspondence, and anything wider is a retail communication that a principal approves before use.

Can an AI twin give investment advice?+

An AI twin should not give personalized investment advice, because personalized recommendations engage your fiduciary duty as an investment adviser, or Regulation Best Interest at a broker-dealer. A twin's job is to answer questions about you and your firm and send the prospect to your booking link.

Do I have to tell prospects they are talking to AI?+

The SEC Marketing Rule bars information likely to create a misleading implication about a material fact, so hiding the AI is a needless risk. Every Timeless AI™ Twin carries a badge that names the twin, and asked directly, the twin says in one line that the visitor is talking to your twin.

Can a broker-dealer rep use an AI twin?+

A registered representative needs the broker-dealer's approval before using an AI twin with the public. FINRA's chatbot FAQs put chatbot communications under the firm's supervision duty in FINRA Rule 3110(b)(4), and Securities Exchange Act Rule 17a-4 requires the firm to keep business communications.

How long do I have to keep AI chatbot records?+

SEC-registered advisers keep advertisements and written communications relating to advice for five years under SEC Rule 204-2, and broker-dealers keep business communications for three years under Securities Exchange Act Rule 17a-4. Timeless AI™ Twin conversations are stored, but the retention duty stays with the firm.

How much does Timeless AI™ Twin cost?+

Timeless AI™ Twin comes with Timeless Pro, which costs $59.99 a month or $599 a year and includes everything in the Eternal plan. Building your Persona is free with 25 memories, up to 5 Trusted Contacts and Executor Lock™ setup, with no card and no expiry.
